1749 Testore cello stolen: Skewen, Neath

The cello is labelled on the inside as being made by Testore and dated 1749.

It is a full size cello with narrow shoulder. It has a two piece back of either beech or pear wood. The table is of broad grain spruce and scroll of beech. It is finished in extremely dark brown varnish on yellow ground. The grain of the upper front of the cello curves in on both sides towards the neck due to an old alteration. There is evidence of a neck repair. The length of back is 29 1/4".

It was in a white Alan Stevenson fibreglass case with two carry handles, straps removed, wheels on base and several stickers on the front.

Also in case cello bow by John Stagf and 4/4 Pernambucco cello bow made in Brazil.

It was taken along with a car and its contents from the car park of Tesco, Skewen, Neath.

The image is for illustrative purposes only: it is of a Testore cello but not the instrument stolen.
