Police have released CCTV footage after a man was stabbed in the hand during a robbery at his home in Bury.

Some time between 12.30am and 12.50am on Friday 23 May 2008, a 54-year-old man was in the bedroom of his home on Nutt Lane, Simister, when two men, armed with a knife and piece of wood, burst in. The pair demanded cash from the victim before attacking him.

Following a brief struggle the 54-year-old man managed to escape from his house to a neighbouring address where the alarm was raised. The man was treated in hospital for a gash to his head and a small wound to his hand.

Nothing was stolen during the robbery.

The victim has since offered a £20k reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Detective Constable Dave Potter from the robbery unit at Bury said: "These men have forced their way into a private home and assaulted a completely innocent man.

"Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home and I am determined to catch whoever is responsible. I would appeal to people that may be able to identify the men in the CCTV to come forward and help us with our investigation.

"The fact the victim has offered a substantial reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible shows the extent to which this incident has affected him and I would urge anyone with information to contact us."

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Volume Crime Team on 0161 856 8179 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
