  • Theft of ponies: Fordoun

    Grampian Police can confirm that during Tuesday 6 January 2009, both ponies were found safe and well in a field approximately one mile from their home.

    The Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

    Grampian Police is investigating the theft of two Shetland ponies from a field near Fordoun, Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire.

  • Hair cut on Shetland ponies: Ulverston

    Towards the end of December there have been two incidents reported on a farm on the outskirts of Ulverston where Shetland ponies have had hair cut from their tails and manes.  

    The matter is under investigation and police are trying to ascertain if this is a malicious or accidental act.

    Either way, the resulting short tails will mean that the ponies cannot be shown in competitions this year.  

    The ponies are free to roam during daylight hours but are securely housed overnight.

  • Animal welfare incident: Gorse Hill City Farm, Leicester

    The incident happened on Wednesday, 26th November, 2008 at 6.54am when two youths entered the pony and donkey paddock.

    One of the donkeys had been isolated as it had recently had an operation and had healing wounds. The men removed this donkey from its paddock and moved it to a separate paddock.

    Then they took another donkey and two ponies from their paddock and moved them to the paddock where the recovering donkey had been.

  • Dead ponies found: Ford Lane, Bramshill

    Police in Hook are appealing for information after two dead ponies were found in Bramshill.

    Officers received a call on Friday, December 19 to say there was a dead horse in the ford in Ford Lane.

    After officers attended it was clear that there were two dead ponies at the location, a dark bay mare and a dark bay youngster.

    PC Stacy Beale, Equine Liaison Officer, said:

    "At the moment it is unclear how these ponies have died.

  • £5000 Reward Offered: Arson at Stables, County Durham

    A businesswoman is offering a £5,000 reward to catch the arsonists behind a blaze which killed two horses and a donkey at a County Durham stables.

    Margaret Avery was so shocked by news reports of the blaze at Derwentside in Low Westwood, near Consett, that she contacted police to put up the cash. She is offering the reward for information leading to a conviction. The blaze, which started in an adjoining pigeon cree on 24th January, also badly burned several other horses.

    Police link stabbings of two ponies in Carmarthenshire The owners of a pony stabbed in the eye in Carmarthenshire on Tuesday are offering a reward of £1,000 for information. 

    Police have now linked the two attacks — this one and the stabbing of a prize-winning stallion in the same area three weeks ago — and are advising owners to make regular checks on their animals.

    The owners of a pregnant horse in danger of losing its foal after suffering painful injuries in an "appalling" act of cruelty are offering a reward for information leading to the offenders' conviction.

    Graham and Kate Jones, of Wolverley, were "sickened" when they found their horse with a pool of blood at its feet last Thursday.

    It is believed the attackers rode the mare and tried to force it to jump an old tin bath in a field in Wolverley Road near the junction with Sion Hill, shortly before 5.45am.

    Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a Shetland pony was stolen from stables in Wheathampstead between Sunday, October 19 and Monday, October 20.

    The incident occurred between 3pm and 8.45am on those dates when an offender or offenders gained access to the site, which is based on the Lower Luton Road and took the pony.

    It is believed the offender(s) loaded the animal on to a van.

  • Miniature Shetland ponies stolen: Horspath, Oxfordshire

    Police are appealing for information after four miniature Shetland ponies were stolen over the weekend from Three Acres, Sandy Lane, Horspath.

    They were stolen between 7pm on Saturday (11/10) and 8am on Sunday.

    The first pony is called QT (stud book: M98-416 AD0636, passport no: 4645.) QT is a 14-year-old mare. She has brown eyes and is grey in colour. She has a whorl at upper eye level, and no facial markings. She has black hooves, chest whorls, stifle and hip whorls near and offside.

    Police are appealing for information about the theft of a horse from a field in Cookley, near Kidderminster.

    The red leopard appaloosa, called Melanie Rose, was stolen from the field between the A449 and Caunsall Road. It happened between 4pm Tuesday 21st October and 5.30pm Wednesday 22nd October.

    The two year old female horse is described as white and brown spotted.

  • Horse Equipment Stolen: Peopleton

    Horse equipment has been stolen from a shed at a stables in Peopleton, near Pershore.

    The incident took place at Stone Arrow Farm between 19:30 on July 25 and 10:00 on July 26.

    Offender/s broke into the shed and took a £120 Weatherbeater horse rug, two head collars, stirrup leathers and irons and a number of body protectors and hats. A small plant generator worth £35 was also stolen.

  • Horse stolen Alberton Lane, Hallen

    Avon and Somerset Police is appealing for information after a horse was stolen from a field at Alberton Lane, Hallen, overnight Wednesday July 09 to Thursday July 10 2008.

    The horse (pictured) is a 13.3 hands cream-coloured cob described as ''''chunky''''. He has a distinctive dark-coloured tear-drop mark under his eye, blue patches on his chest and a sun-burnt nose.

    The horse has been micro-chipped.

    A two-month-old mini Shetland pony foal has been stolen from a field in Stillington, Stockton-on-Tees.

    The foal was last seen by its owner on the evening of Wednsday June 25 and is believed to have been taken that night or in the early hours of Thursday morning.

    The owner, who doesn't wish to be named, said "I searched high and low in the field, walking the full length of the beck. The mare keeps looking at the gate. I reckon someone put it in a van and took it away."

  • Pony found Near Bromsgrove

    Police are appealing for the owner of a pony found wandering near Bromsgrove to come forward.

    A passing motorist reported the pony on the A491 Bromsgrove to Stourbridge road near the M5 junction at about 11.45pm on Saturday 14th June.

    The pony is described as 11 to 12 hands high, a Welsh mountain-type, with a long mane and tail and is a very pale grey.

    He is currently being looked after, but officers are appealing for his owner to contact Bromsgrove Police on 08457 444888.

  • Theft of Horse in Maisemore, Gloucestershire

    Police are appealing for information following the theft of a horse in Maisemore.

    The two year old black gelding was stolen between 7pm on Monday 9th June and 8am on Tuesday 10th June from a field at a Farm in Maisemore. He is black with a long mane and long tail and is 15 hands high (60" tall).

    A Headcollar was also stolen.
